his studies with David Geringas and Aldo Parisot, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt
has already won several prizes, e.g. at Concours de violoncelle Rostropovitch
and Australasian
Cello Competition in New Zealand. Further prizes followed at the Leonard
Rose Competition,
Maryland/U. S. A., and Tchaikovsky Competition, Moscow.
Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt has performed in Europe,
Russia, Japan and the U. S. A. as soloist
with such prestigious orchestras as the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig,
the Rundfunk-
Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France,
the Sinfonia
Varsovia, the Prague Philharmonia, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and the
Baltimore
Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Charles Dutoit, Marek Janowski,
Christoph
Eschenbach, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Hugh Wolff or Andrey Boreyko.
His performances
led him to the Berlin Philharmonie, Kennedy Center, Washington, into
Carnegie Hall, New
York, Wigmore Hall, London, and Suntory Hall, Tokyo.
As well, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt appears on important festivals. With famous partners, such as Lang Lang, Emanuel Ax, Gil Shaham, Nikolaj Znaider he evotes himself also to chamber music. He is a member of the Goldfeld-Schmidt-Nebolsin Piano Trio, with Jens Peter Maintz he has founded the violoncello duo "Cello Duello".
